I love Rose wine. There is something about the light pink colour and the aromatic bouquet that just sucks me in to enjoying them.
Today I popped open one from the 2004 vintage in the region known as the Coteaux d’ Aix en Provence. It’s an area I know all too well, having spent a week one summer in the town of Mausanne Les Appilles. Nearby is Mas de Gourgournier, Trevallon and Mas De La Dame. While they may not be household names to many, to wine lovers like me they are poetry.
The 2004 Mas de Gourgournier Rose is a charmer. It’s not bone dry like a Tavel or Bandol, but on a hot summer day, with some sliced dry sausage, some black Nyon olives and some green ones too it’s so refreshing…time for another glass.
