Walmart has sold all of its stores to Metro in Germany and is pulling out of the country. According to the Wall Street Journal, rival supermarkets in Germany “were tougher competition than Wal-Mart anticipated and undercut one of its core appeals: low prices. And employees blanched at some of its American-style workplace rules . . . Walmart will book a pretax loss of about $1 billion from the transaction in the second quarter of its year ending in January.”
