Cafe Maritime on Lombard Street (between Divisadero and Scott) is not part of the San Francisco brunch routine . . . yet. Perhaps it’s because they only started serving brunch. Unlike other breakfast places in the city, it’s not loud and does not make your head spin with menus featuring 30 items.
I went there today with my friend, Susan Stuart, a writer and film maker, and we truly enjoyed the experience. The service was outstanding: attentive and friendly. They do not rush you, unlike most brunch places in the city. We both ordered the Lobster Benedict: poached egg with lobster and a light hollandaise sauce, and roasted potatoes. The hollandaise was close to perfect - not heavy and gooey, that way most restaurants think hollandaise should be.
The banana bread pudding was divine: think of warm luscious banana bread on creme anglaise topped with vanilla ice cream.
