Infoworld will no longer publish a print magazine:

Yes, the rumors are true. As of April 2, 2007, InfoWorld is discontinuing its print component. No more printing on dead trees, no more glossy covers, no more supporting the US Post Office in its rush to get thousands of inky copies on subscribers’ desks by Monday morning (or thereabouts). The issue that many of you will receive in your physical mailbox next week — vol. 29, issue 14 — will be the last one in InfoWorld’s storied 29-year history.

This does not mean the end of Infoworld itself. It will continue the events business and online news at Infoworld.com.

And this does not spell the end of print magazines. I still love print but publishers have to think about what’s suitable for print, and what isn’t. For example, certain types of content - fashion, art, architecture, and design photo spreads - are much better in glossy print magazines.

The kind of content that Infoworld and PC Magazine were known for — product reviews, new releases of hardware and software, industry trends — are now covered in real-time by their online sites and blogs (GigaOm, Techcrunch, Engadget, Gizmodo).

We at Muniwireless have a quarterly magazine, but it’s a free, controlled-circulation publication.
