Add Plaxo to my list of totally useless time-wasting online applications filed under Web 2.0 and social networking. I signed up a few weeks ago for Plaxo’s online beta service just to see what it’s like. I was not impressed with what I saw and promptly forgot about it. In the meantime, I canceled my Linked In account and asked them to delete me from their network (see my post on why Linked In is totally useless).
Today, I got an email via Plaxo from someone named Sidney. The message says: Sidney wants to add you as a business connection on Plaxo Pulse.
Who’s Sidney? No last name, no photo, no other details about Sidney were communicated to me either in the email or in the online invitation I had to view on Plaxo. Is Sidney an axe-murdering dope fiend? Maybe. So I rejected the invitation and sent an email to the Plaxo people telling them that I want out of their online network.
This is the personal blog of Esme Vos, founder of Muniwireless.com, Mapplr.com and Shopplr.com. It's about technology, travel, style, fashion, sports, current events and design.

I absolutely agree with you. Plaxo is just another time wasting site. It is basically a contact book, calendar and now a way to show all your contacts all your personal information which to me is annoying. I don’t want all my contacts to see my personal information. Plaxo in definitely not business focused. I just erased my account it’s not worth being on.

Well, I don’t think LinkedIn is a waste of time, but Plaxo is. They have set a limit at 1000 connections and what’s more, have blocked access to my account. Now, thet is a waste of time!

Plaxo is great for keeping up with friends and co-workers, and I think thats really all it was intended to be/do. Its easier to stay connected than thru regular email. Its not brain surgery, but its a no frills connection to people you want to stay connected with. It is what it is people.

I agree with the last comment. Plaxo is great for keeping friends, family, co-workers up to date as phone numbers and e-mails change. You can expose as much information as you want, so your business contacts don’t see your personal information. If people ask to connect to you that you don’t recognize, you just ignore the request or don’t connect with them – its that simple. I don’t see much value in Plaxo as a networking site.

I agree. Plaxo is just like a wall where you put a name and some info, but it doesn’t provide a good structure for contacting people and making a connections. It will die out soon.

I tried plaxo in order to integrate outlook express contacts into my cable internet address book.So far only a few of these contacts have been integrated.TOTALLY FRUSTRATING!!!! Don’t waste space on your hard drive if that is what u expect.

I’m glad i read this forum before signing up for plaxo. i read a review last year in PC magazine, and the mag praised the site without mentioning any of the negatives. i only wanted to use plaxo for the calendar function. I’m disabled and my mother keeps my calendar for me. i wanted her to be able to do it easily online. I keep my freinds and other family in the loop with my blog.guess the calender will have be the one in gmail.

I agree that Plaxo is worthless. They can’t even allow me multiple email identities. So I get invitations on the various email addresses that I use and can’t combine them
epic fail
