Alessandro Petacchi won the 12th stage of the Vuelta a España (Algemesi to Hellin) across a flat, boring, dry plain. For the viewer, it’s not nearly as interesting (landscape-wise) as the Pyrenees or Galicia. But the race remains exciting. Coming in second and third were Daniele Benatti and Aliaksandr Usau, respectively. Leonardo Piepoli has pulled out of the competition because his wife suffered complications while giving birth. That means the King of the Mountains title goes to Denis Menchov who also happens to be the overall leader of the race.
