No surprises in the end. Denis Menchov (Rabobank) won the Vuelta a España 2007 which ended in Madrid today. In second and third place were Carlos Sastre and Samuel Sanchez, respectively. Cadel Evans, who had been in third place for nearly half of the Vuelta, dropped to fourth in the last three stages, overtaken by Sastre in the mountains and Sanchez in the time trials )which is Evans’s speciality, and therefore a big disappointment for Evans).
Daniele Benatti (Lampre) won the last stage, followed by Alessandro Petacchi and Aliaksandr Usau.
