Wim Vansevenant has been the Lanterne Rouge for two consecutive Tours (2006 and 2007) and  now is gunning for this third in a row. If he ends up last in this year’s Tour de France, he will be the first man in history to end up Lanterne Rouge three times in a row, a remarkable achievement given how difficult it is to end up last in the Tour de France three consecutive times.

Today, in the first stage of the Tour, he ended up fourth to last, which is very comforting. He needs to pace himself, make sure he does not end up in the voiture balai (the broom wagon: the van that picks up riders who cannot finish).
